Stylized blueprint portrait of Nikolai Joukowsky

Nikolai Joukowsky

1847 – 1921

Founding aerodynamicist; the water-hammer equation is his.

The father of Russian aerodynamics, Joukowsky derived the lift theorem that bears his name and, separately, the water-hammer equation describing the pressure surge when flow is stopped abruptly in a pipe.

The water-hammer and lift tools here use his results. He bridged pure theory and practical hydraulics at a time when few could do both.

Portrait: a stylized blueprint-line rendering, not a photograph.
